We pride ourselves on our growing alpaca business and intend to keep it a manageable size in order to provide the care ourselves. This is our only business so we devote our full-time efforts.

My interest in alpacas began with a 2004 article in Hobby Farms magazine. The following spring I attended an open-house farm day while on a business trip in Ohio and I was fascinated. I thought of doing it "someday" while I continued to make a living in the stock brokerage business. After a year, I decided it was time for change. I visited several farms and shows and did all the research I could on alpaca health & care, conformation, bloodlines, best practices, etc. Finally, I purchased part of my foundation herd the end of 2006, followed by more in 2007. We agisted until we bought our farm in Marengo, Illinois, and began to get it ready for the first alpacas to arrive in autumn 2007.

We breed for colored huacayas ranging from fawn to true black and are beginning to emphasize browns and blacks. One aspect I particularly enjoy about this business is researching pedigrees and histories to select our foundation herd and to determine the best pairings for breedings. Our goal is for our beautifully colored fleeces to match the superior qualities of whites. Find out more about our alpacas in Illinois.

Our quality herdsires and dams are the foundation of our successful breeding program. Don Raul took 2nd Place Black Male at 2007 AOBA Nationals. Chocolate Swirl started his show career with a First Place blue ribbon at the IAOBA Riverside show. Find out more about our Illinois alpaca herdsires.

Our roster of dams includes 6Peruvian Silent Night who is a producer of award-winning crias and was Snowmass' first pick in the 1998 Peruvian import. In selecting our animals, we focus on ancestry, quality, and reproducibility of desired traits, rather than country of origin. Visit our alpaca breeding program page for more details.

We named our farm "Tall Corn" for two reasons. First, we are surrounded by fields of the tallest corn in the county. Second, I remember from childhood hearing the expression "we're in tall corn" and was told it meant good, prosperous times. Please give us the opportunity to help your business be in tall corn too.

Please look for us at upcoming shows in the Midwest. We invite you to arrange a visit to our farm to view our alpacas for sale and our herdsires for service.
